WHY MAISON BAUM
Modern yet timeless, fashionable yet functional, lightweight yet sturdy. We love to push seemingly impossible boundaries and most of all we love good design. That's why we've been searching for a way to make the perfect high heel comfortable to wear.
FAMILY BUSINESS
I am Christof Baum: the founder of Maison Baum. As the son of an orthopedic surgeon, I grew up with the subject of joint health and am "preloaded" in this regard. My father and his clinic team have analyzed and treated foot complaints and orthopedic diseases for more than 30 years, and have helped many of his patients. Inspired by him, I also wanted to help people with health complaints. Since entrepreneurship is in my blood, but I can't see blood, I envisioned a useful product that is beautiful at the same time.
The idea to do this has virtually forced itself on me...
THE SHOE INDUSTRY LEAVES WOMEN IN THE LURCH
As a bachelor's student at the University of St. Gallen in business administration, I experienced countless women after parties who took off their shoes in the middle of the evening because their feet hurt. My little sister was one of them. The topic didn't let me go and I found out that since the invention of high heels about 100 years ago, a lot has been done for their appearance, but nothing fundamental has ever been done for better comfort. Why also - the women have worn the shoes anyway and suffered silently.
The next day I talked to my father about what to do about it and the business idea was born.
Since overcoming obstacles is what spurs me on the most, it was a challenge for me to work on this project against the advice of shoe manufacturers. So many said in the beginning that a comfortable high heel couldn't exist, that it wasn't technically possible - and even if it did, no one would want it. Countless times I heard phrases like "the shoe just has to look good. Women don't want it any other way." Maison Baum is thus living proof for me every day that limits exist primarily in the mind - and that persistence and innovative spirit pay off.
BERLIN AND HIGH HEELS: CROSSING BORDERS
Since no other city in Germany stands for overcoming boundaries like Berlin - and since the city is teeming with young entrepreneurs, I moved to Berlin in 2018. Together with a first-class team, we are now working on - what could be better - fulfilling women's wishes and making their lives easier in the long term.
CREATE FREEDOM
Just as "woman" does not always want the same hairstyle, she also likes to play with heel heights and models. We make sure that it is always as comfortable as possible. We design ourselves, constantly test new innovative and more sustainable materials and burn to make our shoes with each model even more functional and elegant than before.
Each of our shoes is made by hand in Portugal and to the highest standards of durability and sustainability - according to our motto: Do things differently, but better - and can't be done, doesn't exist!
